A narrow unrelenting space glided with
ash coloured tiles on the floor, bordered in the front with pure white and
glistering marble with low ceilings washed in pure white paint, it was here the
altar sequestered with
silver coated steel railings was placed. A huge wooden cross hung at the centre
in a full nod and wink to its space as a Christian place of worship. This space
consecrated as Chapel of Peace and Joy with the capacity for almost a 1,000 is
where God had placed and located me.
My arrival here was greeted with a
mixture of incredulity embroidered with gratitude. What is a well
spoken, well settled, well heeled man hoping to accomplish by abandoning the
seeming comfort of a land whose streets were glazed with gold and riches? What
is an individual at the peak of his career as Director of Operations in a
stable and growing organisation seeking by returning to the uncertainty Nigeria
sometimes presents? Some thought a slight departure from rationality had occurred
within my thinking. Others saw me as a response to a Macedonian cry for help in
ministry and vowed to offer me every support required. However, Lead City
University simply saw potential in me as an academic and possible intellectual.
By the second week, the acting Chaplain
had been gracious enough to break me into the ministry by asking me to preach.
It was this that launched my public ministry to Lead City University. To many
intents and purposes could it be said I had found my place for now?
