The land is characterised by undulating patterns, it reveals
heights and lows, valleys and hills lurking in the background. It has one main artery of road described as
the ‘Airport Road’ because of its ability to induce cars to take off like a
jet. However, that tendency is now moderated by a variety of speed breaks
designed to inflict maximum damage on the shock absorbers of the offending
adventurists.
It is here deep in its inner recesses, bounded by the Faculty of
Law buildings and the University Chapel I found myself nestled in a suite at
the Guest House of Lead City University, Ibadan. It was in a air conditioned,
nicely apportioned apartment, tucked in with twin bedrooms, graced with washing
facilities and compensated with a balcony I found abode. The beds were fit for
a king, elaborate and lavish, and the mattress was as firm and soothing for my
weary back.
It was from here prayers were said, plotting occurred and the
groundwork for my mission to Nigeria planned. The accommodation was strategic
in its location, the Chapel a stone throw away, the Faculty of Law where I had
an office was a casting glance. It was designed to be temporary whilst my staff
quarters allocation was being completed but for two years it was my bolthole. Its only significant drawback was it
converted me into a connoisseur of cuisines from a variety of restaurants. This
proved to be an expensive indulgence.
