'I Found My Voice' is a riveting autobiographical account which charts the course of the author's life from the early days of his nativity in England through to his return to his native Nigeria and continuing right through to his exciting formative years at King's College, Lagos and his extraordinary undergraduate years at the University of Ife. It chronicles his various adventures, challenges, victories, and encounters with numerous notable and everyday personalities in these institutions and beyond. He draws interesting parallels between episodes in his life and those in the life of his country, Nigeria. He celebrates it successes and occasionally bemoans its (Nigeria's) loss of direction and sense of purpose as a progressive and promising nation. He is, however, quick to propose and proffer solutions to the rectify the endless maladies that seem to afflict it at will.
Overall, 'I Have Found My Voice' is an engaging book which entertains and enlightens and erects a bridge in the imagination of readers of a certain (middle) age. Across this bridge they can travel to and fro - to past and present - to rediscover, revive and relive precious memories of people and the places that they have been; to review where they are at, at present; and to resolve to continue onward in their travel to places yet undiscovered, as their life journeys continue to unfold. In setting out on this quest, like the author, all they have to do is 'find their voices', tell their stories and let them be heard by their generation.
