The True Origin of the Name Nigeria lies in 1790 .....

It now appears from the contents picture of the page below that the name 'NIGERIA' originates from much further that the alleged (Miss Shaw's) Lord Lugard's wife's creation.   Please refer to where it is stated in an essay which first appeared in The Times of London on 8 January 1897 by "Miss Shaw", that she suggested the name "Nigeria" for the British Protectorate on the Niger River. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flora_Shaw.  

Excerpts from the book 'An inquiry into the subject of suicide' by Charles Moore, published in 1790. The name "Nigeria" is clearly used, in relation to the peoples of an area spanning from Senegal down to the Benin Empire (p.128).
